Children’s books we recommend this week

Lisa: I read Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes: A Story by Jonathan Auxier. I give this 5 out of 5 stars. This was a fun, adventurous, quirky read! The characters and the vivid world he’s created remind me of Roald Dahl’s books. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series. (Grades 4-6)

We Are Brothers, We Are Friends, by Alexandra Penfold and illustrated by Eda Kaban, is a great book for children expecting a little brother, or for those who have a little brother. I wish this book had been available for me to share with my older son. The camping scene — those are my boys today. They are brothers and they are friends. 5 out of 5 stars.

Serafina and the Black Cloak by Robert Beatty takes off like a shot. Serafina quickly realizes that there is a dark presence creeping through the house. A man in a black cloak is stealing children and dragging them down to the basement! Fortunately, Serafina has an extraordinary skill set (she’s part large cat, from what I’ve been able to discern) and she isn’t going to let this menace get away with it! That’s what makes this book so exciting! Consider that she can hang from the ceiling and squeeze into impossibly tight spaces! She has what it takes to track him down!
